Preliminary results from Saturday night show that Paul MacKinnon has won his first Tour of Mull, with Duffy only an amazing 9 sec behind. Iain MacKenzie is 11th and John MacCrone a close 13th.
At the end of the Friday night stages Calum and Del are still second, only 15 secs behind Paul MacKinnon, followed by Daniel Harper at 2:42. John MacCrone is flying at 19th, with Iain MacKenzie also doing well at 24th.
Calum and Del are going great on the first day of the Donegal Rally. They are lying 7th in the national, 59sec behind leader David Bogie in the MG Metro 6R4, and 5th in their class. First stage on Saturday is Knockalla!
The car is being built by Barry McKenna in Maghera, Northern ireland, it's a brand new shell with weld in cage, the engine is built by John Reade (JRE) and was rolling roaded in Dublin recently and gave 296 bhp @ the wheels and 250lbs of torque which is a massive jump in power from last year. The gearbox is a six speed sequential tractive, geared to 130mph. We have went for coil over suspension on the rear and Bilsteins on the front, we will be running 15" wheels and bigger brakes on the front. Also the car will have power steering, heated windscreen, works rear axle and brakes.
So basically it's all new, a steep learning curve on the Friday night but its all very exciting!! I think this year we will get the car sorted through the rally and will be happy if the car finishes, its a tall order for a brand new car to be instantly competitive, but hopefully by the end of it we will be setting some top times. We are going out to Ireland this weekend again to test her out and hopefully get a ball park setting for the suspension and to try the gearbox, everything is new to me so it will take a wee while to get a grip of it all.
All the sponsors have come through again and without this it wouldn't have been possible to attempt this project, so a big thankyou for all their continued support and I hope we will do them proud.
The winner will sit beside the 2007 event winner Calum Duffy, all expenses paid. The winner must be eligible to hold a MSA National B stage navigators licence.
Tickets are £20 and there will be 500 sold. After expenses the proceeds will be split between the Bear Cub Rally Team and the Dervaig Community Woodland Trust.
The Draw will take place on Monday Oct 15th on Pig Day at the Bellachroy Hotel, Dervaig.
